Sarah Campbell

Co-Owner & Vice President, Usability & Human Factors

Sarah has almost 30 years of experience as a Usability / Human Factors Engineer in both government and private industry. She is a passionate advocate for the end user, creatively and objectively bringing their voice to the products on which she works.

At DesignThink, Sarah leads all user experience activities ranging from early user requirements gathering to human factors design efforts to iterative user interaction testing and final design validation activities. Sarah’s experience prior to DesignThink includes being Lead Usability Specialist at Graco Children’s Products where she integrated usability test and evaluation into the new product development cycle, teaching the product development teams the importance of early and iterative user feedback.  Prior to Graco, Sarah was a Usability Engineer at Xerox Corporation leading usability testing of a variety of products from smaller desktop products to high-end production print equipment, providing detailed results and actionable recommendations for improvement back to the design teams. It was here that she honed her ability to interact with many different user types, putting them all at ease, setting context, and providing a comfortable space for them to provide relevant and meaningful feedback.

Sarah started her career working in the aviation world as the Human Factors Engineer supporting the in-flight testing of the (then new and super cool) F-18 E/F fighter for the Navy and an Industrial Ergonomist supporting the assembly and finishing of the 737 line at Boeing Commercial Airplane.

Sarah has a Master’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, Human Factors/Safety Option from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Business from Ithaca College.

When not gathering insights and data from users, you can find her doing CrossFit, working on a house project, getting a little dirt therapy in her gardens, or hiking a national park with her kids.
